Hotel Europa, Puerta del Sol in Madrid, Spain

“A Hotel isn’t like a home, but it’s better than being a house guest.”

Hotel Europa partial view of Puerta del Sol Plaza

Location

Hotel Europa, on Calle del Carmen 4 in Madrid, is conveniently located in the Puerta del Sol plaza. Only feet away from restaurants, bars, shops, train, metro and buses. It’s in a great location in the heart of it all. I found a small cafe where I enjoyed their famous “churros con chocolate” almost every night! There is no need to schedule any events because this location has something for everyone. Even though our room faced part of the plaza, we could not hear the outside noise. Therefore our sleep was quiet and restful.

Hotel Description

The hotel’s decor is a mixture of old dating back to 1860 and a little bit modern. The rooms are spacious as well as the bathroom and very well maintained. The sheets were clean, and the towels were changed daily. The hotel also offers parking for an extra fee. It’s about a quarter of a mile walk but the manager on duty met us at the parking garage and escorted us to the hotel.

Breakfast

The hotel has a restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner either inside or on their outdoor terrace. A perfect setting to enjoy all the action while sipping on a local glass of wine and munching away on their famous tapas.

Service

The check-in process went smooth and quickly. The concierge, manager on duty, and housekeepers were very attentive and accommodating. Most were fully bilingual (English/Spanish).

Pros

This hotel has so many pros – the impeccably clean rooms and bathroom, the proximity to restaurants, train and bus station, shops, parking garage and proximity of main roads. In the middle of all the action and entertainment on Puerta del Sol Plaza. You could not ask for anything more.

Cons

The one con I found was the walk to the parking garage between tourists and locals at Puerta del Sol while hauling luggage. It’s not far but hauling luggage in a packed plaza was not easy. I’m sure my luggage ran over a few feet and I know there was a lot of bumping into people since its such a crowded place.

Price

Hotel Europa prices range from 71€ to 246€. But I’m sure it depends on the season and which type of room you choose.

Rating

We had a great experience at Hotel Europa therefore we are rating it a 4 out of 5. We highly recommend Hotel Europa and would definitely stay there again.
